Girlfriend syndrome is a genetic condition where the boyfriend exhibits changes in personality due to being in a relationship with a girl. Girlfriend syndrome usually occurs in males in their late teens to late twenties.
What are the symptoms?
Some of the symptoms of girlfriend syndrome may include:
The symptoms differ in intensity depending on the boyfriend's age and the duration of the relationship. Late teens and early twenties may exhibit a higher intensity in the first three symptoms and on rare cases major weight gain as well. As the relationship progresses from months to years, the first three symptoms may decrease in intensity as well as the boyfriend may start to show signs of weight gain (if he hasn't already).
Boyfriends in their late teens and early twenties may exhibit a more intense version of girlfriend syndrome known as First Girlfriend Syndrome. This condition is usually associated with males who are becoming a boyfriend for the first time in their life. The symptoms are the same as girlfriend syndrome but with a greater intensity in all the symptoms except weight gain. In fact, weight loss has been reported by some first boyfriends.
Boyfriends in their late twenties may exhibit all the symptoms above but only at a mild intensity and decrease in intensity very quickly, except weight gain. Weight gain occurs in most relationships especially in later stages of the relationship.
The symptoms above are self-explanatory. However, weight gain occurs due to mainly two reasons. These include the lack of exercise and eating the girlfriend's leftovers during dinner.
Treatments
There is currently no successful cure for girlfriend syndrome however,it can be treatable. Since girlfriend syndrome is a genetic condition, altering the boyfriend's personality by genetic means would be the best way to cure this. However, due to legal restrictions, this is prohibited and therefore, no possible cure has been found.
Possible treatments may include psychiatric therapy, hypnosis, increasing tolerance to own emotions and exercising. Since girlfriend syndrome is not life-threatening in any sort of way, its treatments are not necessarily necessary.
